A Fairy Wedding

The Inspiration

Why a fairy wedding? I've been captivated by fairies since my 20s. I was immersing myself in energy healing at the time and through that period, I had some close encounters with the elemental realm. I have friends who’ve seen fairies, others who’ve painted them.

Many years ago I attended a 50th birthday party on the grounds of a stately home in Wicklow.  All the ladies dressed up as fairies and were adorned with the most beautiful ornate wings and ever since then I dreamt that if I ever got married myself that it would have to be a fairy themed wedding. Fortunately my husband to be was totally open to the idea and was more than happy to create it with me.

We visited Brigit's Garden in 2017 for Annabelle's seventh birthday celebration and in my heart I knew this was the perfect place. Our date with those gardens in 2020 was postponed when COVID struck,  so myself and Patrick held a hand fasting ceremony that day under an ancient tree on the grounds where we live.  It was very Fairyesque!  Hand fasting is an old Irish tradition, where you  commit yourself to your beloved for a year, and in that time you decide  whether you choose to go your separate ways or commit to each other for the long haul.  Needless to say we chose the latter.  It was a really magical day with just family and a few close friends.  Our dear friend Jaya, our very own fairy priestess performed the service.  Jaya herself has illustrated her own fairy cards and as a child saw many a fairy in her home in the west of Ireland.

Maid of Honour

Pamela McCormack

It was an easy choice for Pam to be my maid of honour. She's been my wing woman through the most significant times in my life. She’s rooted for me and Patrick from day one so I’m thrilled to have her by my side in one of the most important days of my life.. and I know she’ll plan a great hen too!

Celebrant

Dara Molloy

Dara Molloy is a Celtic Monk and Priest who lives on Inis Mor, in the Aran Islands. Caroline in Brigid's Garden had included Dara on her list of recommendations as his embracing of Celtic Spirituality is aligned with the Celtic symbolism of the Gardens. We requested him as celebrant once we got a sense of connection with the gardens and the diversity he could offer to tailor the celebration to what we wanted.

Ring Bearer

Jesse McKay

A bit of an update since we last wrote this piece. Jesse can not only walk but talk (for Ireland!) The sweet little bright-eyed babe has grown into a rather brash but loveable rogue who revels in having the craic!
